Actually.... the color of the grill doesn't have a thing to do with year.
I've seen '77, '78 and '79 scouts with the chrome grill, and '78/'79 scouts
with the black grill, it seems to be determined by other means, just like
how you could get a black or chrome front bumper.   However, there is a VERY
slight difference in a '77 and '78/'79.   The '77 has the vertical bars in
the grill chromed while the '78/'79 has them colored black.  So if the grill
hasn't been changed you can look at that.  That still doesn't differentiate
between the '78 and '79.
