.120 wall DOM tends to be expensive. the heaviest SCCA cars (ca. 4000 lbs)
generally run 1.75 x 0.120 ERW or 1.75 x 0.095 DOM tubing; the DOM is
stronger than the thicker walled ERW cage, as well as lighter. ERW is a lot
cheaper, though.

i would have to say that black pipe and exhaust pipe are right out. just
don't do that if you want to live.
