Re: Antenna whip

In Linda Tripp's secret telephone recording, Monica and mikeiidc@domain.elided
were heard saying...

Sorry to disappoint you Mike, but I'm just your normal very forgetful guy like
anyone else. In the case of this antenna length question... since I was a
Radio Operator in the Army at one time, I only partially remembered the
formula we were taught to calculate the length of a 1/2 wave dipole antenna in
feet (typically used for low frequency communication). It was drilled into
our heads something like this: "2-4-6-8, drop the 2 and then you're straight!"
Beyond that I couldn't remember if you multiplied or divided by the frequency,
etc., so I grabbed my handy ARRL (American Radio Relay League) handbook I have
for just such emergencies and figured out the rest.

Thought it my be useful to someone someday.

And trust me... I usually avoid memorizing things that I can easily look up...
which is just about everything these days. So... I can *sound* smart here on
the Digest and really be as stupid as everyone else! <grin>

Regards,

John L.
