Re: Vent holes

Vent hole on the 727 (as discussed a week or so ago.. *smile*) is INSIDE
the bellhousing.

If you pull the 727 out and look inside the bellhousing area, where the
mainshaft is..

Now imagine you're looking at a manual tranny with a removeable
bellhousing (the 727 bellhousing doesn't remove). The bellhousing bolts
to the main transmission.

Now imagine the *same* spot (where the bellhousing bolts up to the
tranny) on the 727. Right around there, inside the bellhousing, are
about 6 hex-head bolts that hold the pump body in. There's a seventh
(or is it 8 bolts and a 9th hole?) hole, at the top, near one of the
hex-head bolts. This hole is open, and is the vent.

Dan Nees has a picture now that I think of it.. on his website.

Dan is going to plug the hole and tap a new breather somewhere else. I
think I'm going to try tapping it for 1/8" NPT (or larger if need be)
and using a short elbow, then run a hose up n' out.. which may also mean
another hole in the bellhousing area itself to get the vent tube out.

Dan Nees can testify... PLUG IT.. or you'll end up with silt instead of
ATF.

"sorta"...

I don't believe the front is.. but it sticks out enough that you can pry
the "cap" off and install some 3/8" fuel line with a hose clamp.

The rear is a "tube" that's threaded into the axle housing itself.
Larry Soo tapped this out to 1/4NPT (I think that's the size he said)
and installed a pipe fitting for his breather hose.

I haven't installed any breather lines on my Scouts.. *yet*.. "one of
these days..." kinda thing. ;-) I haven't been deep-water fording yet
anyhow...
