Tom it is not that inconvenient to place the hitch pin behind the bumper,
thats how i have mine.  I have my pin vertical instead of horizontal in my
receiver, it makes it easier to get in and out.  this requires drilling a
new hole in your stinger for the pin.  with the pin behind the bumper you
can have the end of the receiver tube flush with the bumper so you wont
harm departure angles
