RE: PCV valves



Tom & All,

The new PCV valve didn't stop my leak at all, but I think it slowed it
somewhat.  Perhaps just wishful thinking?  As soon as the current owner gets
the title from DOT, I'll be buying another '79 with the same driveline as
mine (this is as of 5:30 tonight).  My transmission needs some attention
(synchros?), so I want to do this all at once.  My plan is to evaluate the
transmission in the "new" Scout, rebuild it if necessary, put that one in
after replacing the rear main.  It'll probably be a couple weeks yet before
this happens.  Argh!!!  I'm semi-Scoutless.

The PCV valve is nothing but a one-way valve that meters a vacuum signal
from the intake manifold to the engine oil galleries. You can tell if
it's good by shaking it and seeing if you hear a "rattle" inside. That
is the little plastic do-hicky is loose and flopping. Then it's good.

If no rattle, plastic restrictor is bad, you need a new PCV valve.

If no one has given you a number yet, write back and I'll go out and
look at mine. It has a brand name and item number on it I seem to
remember.
