Baltimore L-111 for sale
Here is some more info on the L-111 that is for sale in Baltimore. I
will likely go look at it this weekend and will report back if anyone is
interested. What is it with these trucks? My master cylinder needs a
rebuild, so does this one, so does the one on eBay. You would think that
these trucks were old or something.

Well, some of your questions I can't answer. There
is a piece of the original receipt around here somewhere
which might give you the details you're looking for
about transmission type and differential. It's a
three-on-tree shift with a crawling low gear (I sometimes
start it in second if I'm pointing downhill. SD-220 Engine. Has all
its glass but the front windshield leaks
a bit. Lots of surface rust, some parts more than others.
It's been parked on the street and running up until about
a year or so ago - couldn't locate a new master brake
cylinder and couldn't figure out what to do with the leaking
gas tank. Plus life got just too busy to deal with it. It has
some dents in the driver side front fender caused by
an idiot trying to get out of his parking space a few years
ago during that big freeze we had.
It was half-restored by the guy I bought it from. He did
brake lines, some of the wheel brake cylinders, put
in glass (he got it from original farmer who parked
it in field not long after buying it - it had 45000 miles
on it when the speedo cable broke and I didn't drive
it much beyond that. It has a heater! Which works!
Main brake cylinder needs rebuild, I had the radiator
recored but it still leaks some. Main seal leaks.
Gas tank leaks. The previous owner did a half-hearted
rust grind and primer paint but it's pretty much all brown
now. That said, it's solid steel in that baby and
every bolt I take off slides like it's just oiled. The engine
is in very good shape and it has no serious mechanical
problems that I know of other than what I mentioned.
Vaccuum wipers work, etc. It's a pleasure to work on,
as I guess you know. Very solid machine.
I can't explain it but the only threads that have ever
seized are wheel lugs overtigtened by a guy with
an air wrench set too high.
I'm in the city between JHU and Memorial Stadium, near Barclay and 31st
Streets. Look
for a church on the NE corner, the truck is there. Check
it out and call me at 410-243-2739 if you are interested.
