GVWR - was: Re: Towing

I was amazed when I looked at a '70 Travelall 1200 once, and on
checking
the VIN plate, I found that the GVWR was only 6100 lbs - on a vehicle
that's got to way at least 5500 lbs empty. My '75 has a 6900 lb. GVW -
were they just really conservative in earlier years, or what?
