Tom,
 I ran into this when I swapped a T19 in place of a T18 in my '75
Scout. It's not that the hole is a different size, but that
the part of the dana 20 casting where the shifter mounts to hits 
the side of the transmission. I took a grinder to it, and eventually 
got it to fit. I would assume this is a pre/post '75 thing, since 
that's when the T18/T19 change happened.
