International M392 Marine Engine
Harvesters,
Some of you already know that I've been seeking any information that would
lead me to conclude that any of the IH V8's were used in marine service in
boats. From the following, apparently it is *true* that the 392 was used
in Egg Harbor Yachts, I believe made in New Jersey. Obviously the idea of
putting a 392 into either a replica hull or into an old hull that was
missing it's original engine is only a dream at this point but something I
eventually want to do. Also, it appears the boat below used two engines
and is 37 feet long. I'm thinking of a wooden runabout around 20 feet with
only one engine.
Howard, what do you know of this? Also as a technical aside, normally when
a craft is fitted with twin engines they *rotate* in opposite directions.
Normally this means a "reverse cam" that has the lobes on it completely
different, and in some cases the distributor direction is reversed and the
pistons installed with the "arrow on them pointing the wrong way" on one of
the engines. Howard, do any "wrong-way" engines come to mind?
CookieDan and other New Jerseyians, and anyone else near large bodies of
water, **be on the lookout**. Not only do I need the "wet" manifolds
(water-jacketed with water that has cooled the engine just before it is
spit out the exhaust pipe), also the bell housing that attached the marine
transmission is probably special as well. Complete engine/tranny packages
welcome of course! .....And if anyone can help the original gentleman who
posted, I'm sure he would appreciate it.

>Scott, whilst I don't have any information on where to get this manifold,
I'm curious if this is a >International truck 392 cubic inch V-8 gasoline
engine modified to marine service? As owner of old Chris->Crafts and old
International trucks, I've always thought that the 392 engine would make a
great marine engine >and have thought about putting one in an old Chris
that did not have an engine. The engine is certainly heavy >duty enuf for
marine service. Thanks for any information you may have. BTW, who/where is
Palmer Marine and >how do I get in touch with them?

+Palmer is out of business. I have a 1970 egg harbor "37" that has two
international harvestor
+engines m392. the engine is a very good gas engine for a boat and probably
went into a lot of egg harbors. +These engines used fresh water cooled
manifolds. there is a place in New York state that will make you a
+manifold out of stainless. they quoted me ~3 to 4000$ for all four
manifolds and risers. the machinist i +talked to said he used to get a lot
of calls for this application 20 years ago. you may find a used one
+somewhere in the newjersey area. I cant find the number right now for his
business.
