Re: Questions,questions....

That does not compute! A 76 Traveler with its original components would
have a Dana 44 axle front and rear.

A discharge on the amp gauge at idle... particularly when in gear with an
automatic transmission... is not abnormal when you have high current draw
from lights, heater blower motor, etc. Depending on several factors, at
engine idle, your alternator is probably turning below its "cut-in" speed.
If upon increasing the engine rpm the amp gauge shows an immediate charge,
then this is the normal. The situation can be improved by increasing the
engine idle rpm or decreasing the size of the pulley on the alternator.

The fact that the amp gauge shows a constant charge during the day under
(presumably) low current draw situations, could mean that you have
electrical accessories connected directly to the battery's "positive"
terminal. These electrical loads then bypass the amp gauge. The amp gauge
then "sees" these loads as the alternator charging the battery and gives
you the constant charging indication.

Or... you could have a problem with the amp gauge or battery, but the above
is more likely IMHO.
