Re: Scout 800A or -B

I have a '71 800B with VIN #882827 G 4311553. Sounds like yours is
earlier. The externally-visible differences between the 800A and -B
include rectangular side lights and no "IH" logo on the front of the
hood. The "International" on the grill of the -A was replaced with a
red and black "IH" logo on the -B. Black paint was removed from the
headlight bezels to give a chrome look. The Scout Comanche was the
special model for '71. Dunno whether it was identified as an 800A or
-B, but it has the exterior markings of an 800B, plus chrome wheels and
racing stripes on the hood. The picture I have shows an orange body
with white stripes.

The sales literature from those years lists the V-304 as having 193
gross HP at 4400 rpm with 272 lb-ft gross torque at 2800 rpm, so sounds
like you've got a 304, all right. A great motor. The 800B has a "V8"
chrome insignia on the side fender. There is also a chrome "all wheel
drive" insignia on the side fender.

Good luck,
