Guys:

Don't forget when looking at HP numbers from the manufacturers:

prior to 1972, HP rating was in Brake Horsepower. From 1972 on, the U.S.
standard was SAE Net Horsepower. Hence, and identical engine from 1971
to 1972 can have an apparent HP drop of 20% to 30%. But, it is only the
methodology. (Torque was the same case as well.)

Brake HP is at the flywheel, no accesories driven. Raw motor power. SAE
net is with all accesories driven. I can't remember weather it was
tailshaft of trans or crankshaft of engine.

By the way, the factories were never real good about their HP ratings
anway. Sometimes they were way high compared to reality, sometimes
artifically low. Depends on if they were trying to "beat the
competition" or "fake out the insurance folks".
