When I lived in the Outback of Australia an Ute was more of a name for a
pickup, a Ford Falcon, or a flatbed Toyota. A few Ozzies would refer to 4
door Landcruisers as Utes, but most just called them Landcruisers. I always
thought Ute was short for utility vehicle.
