Scout shackle reversal

On the EC4WDA's Trailfest 4 this weekend, my front spring shackles reversed
twice.  The second time they both did it.  It only happens on extreme stuff,
but once they flip it won't steer to the right!

This is the same malady that affected Tom Mandera's Scout.  Is there a remedy?

I'm thinking of a bumpstop-like device to limit travel.  Any ideas?
