Advice required - Air injection workaround

My '73 Travelall with a 392 has the air pump system injecting air into the
exhaust manifolds. Two of the inserts into the manifold are leaking and
too stripped to tighten. Since we don't have any emmissions requirements
for old vehicles in Minn, can I just take off the whole system and fill the
holes in the manifold with small bolts? For the stripped ones, could I use
lots of teflon tape or J-B weld to tighten them? I'd just as soon get rid
of the whole system to open up the under-hood area, if it won't make too
much of a drivability problem.
