Joel,
 I think you should be fine with a shackle reversal - that will cure
the problem. I'm not planning a shackle reversal any time soon, so
I made sure to reenforce the spring attachment. A friend of mine had
a similar experience to Tom's last year in Moab - the bracket peeled
a piece of the bottom of the frame off like a sardine can.
