Re: Engine swap
Before going to the Chevy, consider a 392 from a T'all. You can bore
these out 0.090, that's right ninety thousanths. It is a much easier
swap. The engines are readily available and a competent machinest will
have no problems rebuilding. The local Navistar dealer told me he can
get any engine parts I want. Even **new** starters! The 392 will be
*way* less work, it fits exactly where the 345 was. BTW with these
engines all the power is available where you drive every day. You don't
have to rev it like a hoover to get some response. If you ever try to
pull a trailer it is *way* better than a small block Chevy.
Oh yeah, if you have epa-nazis where you live they can't tell a 392 from
a 345 and the Chevy is definitely illegal in the Scout. This depends on
where you have the vehicle licensed.
