half cab scout

Hi, I've priced a 74 Scout with a 304 that runs good but has a lot of rust.
It has the half cab, which is attractive. It has a D44 up front from a 77
scout. It also has a manual 3 speed (which tranny is this anyway?). The guy
wants $1000 for it. Is this too much? Thanks. Oh, the tranny pops out of
reverse frequently, but forward gears run fine. What makes it pop out of
gear on reverse anyway?
