Traveler lifgate and puzzler
Nick,
The lift gate goes with the top so you'll either need
to get a net, or another tailgate, like from a ScoutII. I have one extra dent
free tailgate with the IH light green paint, and only surface rust (very
little). It has the flip down license plate too. Where are you? I'm in sunny
(warm) Tucson, Arizona.

Subject: Removing the hard top
Hi all,
It's march, and spring's right around the corner. One thing, though. I
just got my first scout 3 weeks ago. It's a traveler, and I'm
wondering, when I take the top off, does the gate go too? Should I just
get one of those net lookin' deals? Also, how do I go about removing
one?
Thanks,
Nick

Rob,
Tie a shoelace to the throttle arm, leave the hood cracked a bit, and drive
home using the shoelace through the window. If necessary, use two laces tied
together.
AHA! Tie the end of the cable to the end of the accelerator transmission
kick down rod mount. Smooth sailing.
BTW I build all my own cables and just buy the raw cable from the hardware
store. Threaded clamp ends, and aircraft stainless cable. I carry about 6ft of
spare with me. Cost about 50 cents, but it may get me home sometime.

Subject: MSD Distributor for IH on "Tonto" and Broken Trottle Cable Teaser
If MSD doesn't make a distributor for IH engines, why did Project
Tonto have one. I thought I remember reading and seeing that flat wide
MSD dist. on the 392 in Project Tonto - Willie? Was it custom made?

PS Here's one for all the trailside mechanics:
You are in the Target parking lot just before closing and you pump the
gas a couple of times before using your 1/2" socket wrench to jump the
selenoid to start up the Scout as per usual - but - the trottle cable
breaks off and is now too short to grab with the vise grips you had
holding it on (for the last 6 months) without pulling the trottle 2/3
of the way open. What do you do? Remember, no tools cause you don't
have a top and you only have $20. and a flat blade screwdriver. and of
course, the mid sized vise grips and the 1/2" driver with a 3/4"
socket. The screw driver is there cause you need that as the "key" to
the locking gas cap.
