I never had a chance to play with the parts and don't know all the
details, but IH/Navistar uses that sort of system on their medium duty
trucks beginning with the S-Series in about 1980.  The brake boost comes
from the power steering, but there's an electric backup if needed.  I
took an Advanata to the 1997 Scout Nationals and it had this system.  If
you step on the brakes with the engine off, you'll hear the electric
system run.  I don't know if this might be a good parts source or not.

An English teacher, huh?  That should take some of the heat off of Tom M.
