Dan:

For the time being, I can either edit your profile page FOR you (if the
changes are minor) or I can simply delete it altogether and you may do it
again from scratch. Let me know your preference.

The "big picture" plan, however, is to implement a bonafide multi-table
relational database (people in one table, vehicles in another) utilizing
the mSQL or mySQL database servers that are available through my hosting
provider.

The intent is to prompt for a password (such as your "Mother's Maiden
Name") when you create a profile (or a vehicle record), such that only you
or the database administrator could subsequently modify records that you
created. I'd like for folks to be able to update their records when they
move, remove vehicles that they've sold, etc.

Naturally we'd like folks to be able to ADD records, and EDIT (or delete)
records that they've created. We'd also like folks to be able to query the
database in a number of ways (e.g., "all Travelall owners in Oklahoma", or
"all L-120 owners no matter where they live", or "all persons in Boise, ID,
regardless of what they own", etc.)

I already have prototype tables created in an MS Access database. I have a
start on some of the data for the "persons" table from the current Member
Profiles, and some vehicle data from what Jeffrey Deaver had pulled
together. I have the database server and the tools to access the database
from HTML web pages (Perl, Java, PHP/FI, etc.). What I lack is the
programming talent to use these tools to pull it all together.

If anyone on the list does this sort of thing for a living, please contact
me if you have some MIPs to spare and are willing to donate to this
project. I've put a few feelers out, but everyone I've contacted is pretty
busy with their jobs & families & other "real life" pursuits.

I think this kind of a person/vehicle "registry" could be a helluva good
thing for the IH Community, and I'll surely do whatever I can to pull it
off. But I'm putting out the call for some technical help on this one.

Best Regards,

Bill Thebert
