U-joint bearings

Mike,
If the U-joint has a grease fitting, I wouldn't disassemble the bearing
assembly. If it doesn't have the fitting, then I would. If you haven't
looked yet, the bearings are a couple of dozen little cylinders that you
will need to hold in place with your new grease as you slip the cap back
on. In my experience, the cylindrical bearings are usually OK and the
wear shows up on the piece that goes inside the bearings. If you see any
wear, replace the joint. You can do this yourself if you have a big vise.
U-joints are cheap. A driveline place once told me that NAPA and Chief
U's are OK, but that Kragen sells an inferior joint. These guys did
thousands of drivelines, so should know, but who knows....
