Allan,
  Regarding your metal exhaust manifold gaskets, try Stan's Headers in
Auburn, WA, he's got paper (asbestos or whatever) gaskets for the headers. 
I haven't had any problems in 3 years.  Same gaskets fit the 266,304,345,
392.
