Gentlemen
When loosening items that will probably require a hefty nudge (i.e.
stuck alloy wheels, or oil pans) always leave a loosened bolt or two
in place to capture the suddenly released item.
I broke this rule today. I must have looked like Sylvester da'
Puddy-Cat swatting at Tweety-bird as the lower oil pan from my 84'
E30 M10 318i did a mid-air pirouette, spinning, twirling. Each time
my hands made contact, it only added to the spin, twirl and tumble to
the concrete floor. This steel pan was repairable.
Where did all the oil come from, It had been draining for an hour.
If I'd followed my own rules, when I thumped this lower pan, it
would have released from the upper pan, and been suspended by a bolt
or two.
