RE: brake wear sensor - testing?

Igshaan,
Brake pad sensors do not require any kind of a reset.
Pad sensors complete a circuit to keep the dash board light OFF. Sensor is
just a wire loop encased in a plastic tab that keeps the wire attached to a
brake pad. Once the circuit is broken by either the pad wearing though and
cutting the wire in the 'sensor', sensor getting unplugged or some other
brake in the wiring, the light goes ON. Complete the circuit and light will
go OFF. End of story.
You can easily test your old sensors for continuity on top of a visual
inspection. If they pass, they are still good.
If you paid someone else to replace your brake pads, than the first thing I
would do is go back to the front driver-side and rear passenger-side wheels
and check to make sure the sensors were plugged back into the loop. Than
double check the sensors. If the light is still ON, you have a brake
somewhere else in the circuit. Now you can choose to continue trouble
shooting the light or take the instrument cluster out permanently remove
the bulb.

TIS stands for Technical Information System. It's a BMW repair procedures
CD.
I've just double checked and it does specify any brake pad sensor reset
procedures for either E36 or E39 cars.

Tyler

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll try this tonight.

Thanks
Igshaan

PS 'Scuse my ignorance, but what's the TIS procedure?
