E36 front crankshaft seal leaking

The front crankshaft seal (pulley seal) on my 93 318is is leaking. I'm
wondering how to hold the pulley while I break loose the 244 ft/lb bolt that
holds it. Can I use an impact driver on this without damaging the crank
bearings? Can I put the car in gear with the parking brake on and use a long
breaker bar without damaging the transmission or something else. Anybody
done this repair?
