Took the words right out of my mouth. I spoke with a BMW suspension expert;
he said that the three series was designed to give the driver very good road
feedback. The more one moves away from the design spec of tire size, the
more one accentuates, or loses, that feel. This is true for most any car in
a general sense, but our suspensions were designed to be sensitive.
Grooves in the concrete, road imperfections, the road's crown, slightly
uneven tire pressure, cross-winds, all that and more leading to the feeling
that you are constantly having to correct the steering direction. It can be
real annoying and tiresome on a long drive but, overall, it doesn't hurt
anything.
