Cleaning Wheels

I have found that the key to easy to clean wheels is to clean them very
frequently and apply a coat of wax. Remember that brake dust is composed of
abrasive particles and binder adhesive. The adhesive is very corrosive and,
combined with the abrasive particles, will scratch and corrode and pit the
clear coat paint on the wheels. This results in lots of little pits and
scratches for the brake dust to accumulate in - corrode more - and on and on.

I know few people would find this practical, but I clean my wheels every day
that I drive my car. I also apply wax every four drives. By doing this (and
starting with new wheels) they never develop the small pits and scratches
that make them hard to clean. To clean them, I simply use Griot's Speed
Shine on a small cotton cloth. Sometimes I just use a wet cotton cloth. No
cleaner is needed.

(The idea of switching to ductless pads is tempting ...)
