My question is: a) is there a trick to replace the switch? or b) is there
a special tool that will fit the tight space?
Suggestions are welcomed. >>
YES, it can be done...no tricks however. It is indeed tight in there, but
you shouldn't have to lower the engine to do the replacement. Try a stubby
wrench...check the mm size on the new switch beforehand to ensure proper
wrench size. As a last resort you could lower the tranny slightly, but what
a pain if not necessary. I know what you are going through, as I recently
did the switch replacement on my son's '87 325is...took me about 5minutes (or
less).
Good luck,
and BTW, what does "P.Eng." stand for?
