I had this problem constantly for a while... check these two things:

   1) make sure you have genuine BMW bulbs.  some aftermarket bulbs light up 
find but have diffrent resistances and cause that fault code

   2) check your break pedel break light switch.  Mine would "stick" and 
cause the computer to think there was a break circuit problem

after I replaced the switch ($9) my problem went away!
