Dull Paint

Since I bought my car 3 years ago (91 318ic black) the paint is dull.  I tried,
each year, a new kind of wax.  After waxing, it looks good but only for a couple
of weeks, then it fades again.  The car is black but under sunlight, it looks
almost charcoal.  When it is wet it looks great.  What can I do to have a deep
looking black?  Does the paint need a coumpond job or I'm not using the good
wax?

Any help would be appreciated.
