Coolant Level Sending Unit

Does anyone know where the radiator coolant level sending unit is located on 
an E36 325?  There are two units, one is a two wire pickup on the bottom of 
the filler tank and the second is a three wire unit about three-quarters of 
the way up the side of the radiator itself.  I assume one is the coolant 
level sender, but I need to know which.

I get a low coolant level warning each time I start the car, but the actual 
level of coolant is proper.
