I have a 1995 325iA, Sport pakcage, with 51K.  I, too, had those strange 
noises, out of the front end.  Never when stopped, only when moving slowly. 
Almost like a groan... and it was sporatic.  Took it to my BMW guy, he drove 
it and, of course, it didn't make the noise.  
We siliconed the rubber antiroll bar bushings, stuff like that. 
I didn't have a clue, and the noise came and went at random, as I mentioned. 
Two weeks later, my wife was taking a trip and the left front wheel about 
fell off !  Flat tow to the BMW guy - diagnosis,
bad wheel bearing, and the caliper was screwed up.  $450 dollarsl later, I 
wrote BMW a rather nasty letter, telling them that this car
was 1,000 miles and 3 months out of warranty.  I sent a copy of the bill.
Well, you can guess what happened.  A nice letter from BMW with 
NO  reimbusement.  They said that had I taken the car to an Authorized BMW 
Dealer for repair, they would have had the chance to examine the parts, but I 
didn't, so I was out the money.  
The right side wheel bearing and caliper seem fine.  At any rate, that was my 
frnt end noise....
