End of my 3 years of new car warranty

I've a 97 528i which has been very dependable and trouble free.  I'm coming
to the end of the three year new car warranty (in March).   I'm not inclined
to purchase any sort of an extended warranty, but wonder if opinion on the
list is different.  After all big repairs on BMW's cost big money.  If the
recommendations are to purchase said warranties...from whom should I
consider purchasing such a warranty and how much should I spend?
