I'll probably get flamed for this.. but what the heck.

I Once purchased (And owned very briefly) A 1988 535is.  It had
something like 23 or 24K miles on it when I bought it in approx 1995. 
(Helps to know the odd wholesaler eh? :)

All 5 of its' tires were 220-55VR390s (People often use the 220-55HR390
BC it's cheaper.. 200-60s are VR only, unless you get smart and get
Avons like I always did).

Also, the date codes on the tires all koshered with the car's build
date.

Hope this sheds some light.. From what I have been told.. SOME and I
mean a FEW 535is's WERE OEM With the 220-55s.  It wasnt official, it was
more of a "Well we ran low on 200-60s and we had some of these around"
type of thing.  Kinda like how certain E28s can have one of, what, 2 or
3 different AC Compressors?
