<E30> What is this connector for?

     I was replacing the temp sensor (for OBC)  on my 87 325is this last
weekend, and found a connector that had nothing plugged into it.  It came
out of the same bundle of wire as the temp sensor wires, and had one red and
one black wire going to it.  At the end, it ran into a connector at a 90
degree angle and had round holes for something to plug into it...  Anyone
know what this is for?
