I do the San Fran<->Ferndale Calif. route along
101 a lot and have heard the Benbow Inn is a nice
place to stay (it certainly looks the part), but
plan on eating elsewhere.  If you're looking for
dinner in Eureka, the Carter House is the best in
the area.  101 north of Garberville, Calif has
some wonderful four-lane divided stretches where
you can wind out your car, but be aware it is
patrolled.  =
