Rolex 24 at Daytona
It's nice to know the TV schedule on ESPN2, but it's nicer to be there!
3 of us are leaving BWI Thurs 1/28 6pm, returning sun night. I'm
looking for a 4th, 5th or 6th.
Lots of great reasons to go this year:
- - NASCAR 1991 Daytona 500 champ Ernie Irvan is driving. What team, you
ask? How about the PTG GT3 M3 team with Boris, Mark and Brian? Yup.
- - 2 new Corvettes in GT2 to duke it out with the Vipers and, oh yes,
still Porsche turbos (don't think we'll see any GT2 M3's this year).
- - BMW-M-V8-powered WSC car won Sebring a few weeks ago. Will it take
the Rolex also? Hmm... Nice to see that not all winners are red.
- - They'll be using the lights this year (hopefully not the 100% NASCAR
setup). Didier Tethys & Jim Downing have tested the lights at 20% &
liked it. Would be ideal for spectators IMHO -- not just headlights &
sound but still night racing.
- - 4-day infield, grandstand, paddock & garage ticket only $70.
We're staying at the newly-remodeled Quality Inn on the beach. If
there's interest (e-mail me privately), I'll try to arrange some killer
BMW CCA discounts. Would be cool to have mainly BMW CCA crowd there.
NO disclaimer here -- as part owner they'll listen to me. (Sorry for
the blatant commercialism, but I think I can help save you $$.)
Looking forward to seeing the roundel take both overall and GT3!
