This is a common problem with some rear window defroster units. The
laws of physics tell us that matter cannot be destroyed, and this is a
perfect example. When using the rear window defroster to melt snow,
that snow has to go somewhere and the radio antenna is often the path of
least resistance. QED: you wind up with snow in your radio reception.
As for a solution: My E28 535i has a specially designed antenna mast
that will not extend in cold weather no matter what you may try.

E28 535i with great FM reception, but only in warm weather, and
sometimes not even in warm weather...
