Jeff:
Give me a break. If you show logo suggestions to BMWNA they are almost
guaranteed to reject whatever you show them. They have a strong interest in
preserving the value of their trademarks. However, there is one exception to
the copyright/trademark rule. Their is a fair use clause in copyright law that
covers educational use. I would argue that use of the Roundel in a non-profit
situation would not be damaging to BMW and in fact would add value to the BMW
name by having it proudly displayed by 3,000+ BMW members. Therefore it is my
opinion that it falls under fair use.
But then again, I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV or the Internet so
who cares. I don't mind Duane's suggestion though... and acting professional
was never high on my list of digest priorities.
