Rev limiters

Isn't this covered by the rev limiter that is engaged when the revs go
over the certain limit. (fuel cut off will stop a over rev dead in its
tracks. No fuel, no more rev , it is that simple)

If you're suggesting that cutting off the fuel, or even ignition, will
prevent over rev due to a mis-shift ( eg 5th to 2nd), it won't. That's
because the engine is being driven by the transmission, not internal
combustion. The idea of having a clutch release is interesting, but I'm not
sure it could react quickly enough. Moral of story: shift carefully and /or
closer to the corner.
