  No it isn't.. that's a popular misconception..

  While the O2 sensor is only active under conditions that could be called
  "part load" under load X and rpm Y.. the mixture adaptation numbers that
  are formulated from the O2 sensor WHEN it's active (generally a low speed
  additive and a mid speed multaplicative correction) are used EVEN under
  WOT conditions!

  Open loop only means that FEEDBACK is not occuring right now.. 

  It does NOT mean that the correction factors are now ignored..

  Not WRONG.. they just omit the most important aspects of it.. they are
  not stupid, Mark.. they don't RELEASE information on how the DME really
  works..
