re: speeding tickets

I was driving up to school here in my '73 Toyota, whose lights like to go
out and come back on spontaneously every so often. Apparently that day was
the license plate light's day off! The cop (who was businesslike, but fair)
pulled out his flashlight and looked into the car from all different angles
- -- drug runners turn the plate light off in an attempt not to be recognized
by the police. I got a warning that time. The time before that it was the
taillights, and I got a fix-it ticket. Getting it fixed wasn't a problem,
and fix-it tickets don't affect insurance AFAIK since they're often
mechanical problems, but you've got to go down to City Hall and show the
receipt to a magistrate! It's pretty automatic, I think, but a pain in the
neck.

FWIW, to the officer on the list, what would you do if you aren't sure the
blinking lights behind you belong to a genuine cop? I've been harassed by a
fake cop once and it was, to say the least, unpleasant.

ObBMW: If you're driving your BMW in Boston, be careful on Mem Drive; once
in a while a cop will park there (the parking spaces near Tech) to run
speed traps.

Charles.
