Longevity and Engine Changing

I have an E24 with 170K on it and I'm contemplating what to do when the
engine eventually goes. It's a 3.3 so I'm interested in hearing from
people who've switched to a 3.5 engine. I've sort of written off the
rebuilding option as not cost effective and so have been leaning toward
putting in a new block. I believe I can just drop the new engine in
without changing the DME, injectors or wiring harness- correct?
