Buttonwillow Track Activity - Who Were They? <wob-ish>

My family and I drove from the S.F. Bay Area to Lost Angeles this last
weekend for a family birthday party. Returning Sunday on I-5, we saw
race cars being trailered home, including a 2002 and an MG heading
south. At the Harris Ranch restaurant/hotel/gift shop/gas station
complex (great steaks, by the way) there was a nice red E30 M3 in the
parking lot with a roll bar, harnesses and requisite stickers, right next to
a 7 series. And a whole bunch of E36s passed us northbound right
after dark.

Of course, none of the drivers of these cars would have recognized me,
since we were in the family Durango (13.6 MPG tops at 75 MPH with the
A/C running, man that sucks!) instead of my trusty 325i/is hybrid. (Me:
Let's take my car, it gets nearly twice the gas mileage of the Durango",
Wife: "But Natalia needs space to stretch out in back, let's take the
Durango", Me, to myself: "How much space does a 10 year old need?"
Me, during trip: " We're only getting 13.6 MPG." Her: "IS THAT ALL? I
thought it was supposed to be better on the highway!??" Me: "Well,
we're running 75 with the A/C on and this thing is tall." Her: "Maybe we
should have taken the Bimmer." So we paid $34 extra (gas) so our
daughter could stretch out, whatever...

But back to my point (sorry for the diversion), my GGC calendar didn't
have a club race listed for Sept. 26/27, so it must have been some other
group. SCCA? NASA? I would have figured it to be a BMW CCA event,
except for the MG. Anyway, I'm just curious who was running this
weekend? If any of you were there, please clue me in.

Thanks,

Scott Miller
