E36 M3/4 Wheel\tire combinations

Hi All;

I am looking for new wheels/tires for my E36 M3/4.  Tire Rack is pushing
8"x17" all around with 235/40/17 tires.  Anyone tried this set-up?  It will
eliminate the stagger problem, but how will it effect handling and
speedometer readings?  The rear tires have worn out way before the fronts.
What other wheel/tire combinations are people using?  Thanks.
