I don't think that you should use sandpaper on electrical contacts. It solves
the problem short term (restores contact) but scrapes off the protective
plating and exposes the base metal. This will cause the contacts to corrode
and fail.
Draw a electronic cleaner soaked piece of paper between the closed contacts.
The paper should show a black streak on it, repeat with a clean section of
paper until it comes out crud free.
If the contacts are corroded (discolored appearance), you should burnish the
contacts with a piece of stiff paper, business card stock works well. Saw the
paper back n forth between the closed contacts a half a dozen times or so.
Follow up with a cleaning.
