Batteries hate hot weather - especially if the water is low in them.  My 
truck battery (Sears diehard) shorted out in 100+ degree Sacramento 
weather.  It was a fairly new battery.  I returned it and received a 
pro-rated refund.  I promptly went to Kragen Auto Parts and bought a 
1000 cranking amps battery and it has been dependable so far.  Remember, 
keep up the fluid level in those batteries!  Good luck.
