Hmmm...

I remember my old 533i used to pull similar stunts when it lost its' SI
Board.  Is yours faulty?  It's been my experience that those can make
everything screwy.

Are the other functions working? If so.. what gives the MPG function
its' input? THat'd be my first place to look.
